COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

MEXICO MISSION TRIP

Easter Break, April 7-14, 2007

The 2007 Mexico Mission Trip started with preparations, fund raising and training in February. The team consisted of 30 young adults and 12 older adults; this was the first build for 19 of the members. We took 2 pickups with trailers, 3 mini vans and 3 SUV's and drove 1385 miles over Easter Break. The trip took 8 days and 7 nights. Slideshow

We built a church high on a mountain on the easterly side of Tijuana, Mexico for a congregation of over 40 members. When we arrived a 2.5 foot high pony wall had been built for the foundation of the church. We mixed and placed 11 cubic yards of concrete for the floor. This took approximately 250 wheel barrel loads of hand mixed concrete. The church measured 23 feet by 45 feet with 8 foot walls on top of the pony walls. It has 8 windows and 3 doors with wood framed walls covered with stucco and a tarpaper roof. We started placing the concrete on Monday morning and finished the exterior on Thursday afternoon. The congregation will finish off the interior of the church with sheet rock on the walls and a tile floor.

When we were finished the congregation prepared a taco dinner for us and we joined them for a church service in both Spanish and English.

The trip was financed through the generous support of the Community Presbyterian Church of Vacaville.
